John 3:8 says "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
This verse shows a lot about our condition and what God's role is in relation to salvation. First, it is important to know that the word for wind is the same word for Spirit. Second, because of this it shows that the Spirit does what He wants and is not affected by anything. Third, we don't know where the wind comes from and it is the same with the Spirit of God. Because of our fallen nature we are dead (Ephesians 2:1) and can't understand the Spirit. Fourth, we can see the results or "hear its sound", but it is not understandable in relation to the Kingdom of God, unless we are born again by the Spirit.
